PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To avoid an influence of measuring light emitted on a human body in an image diagnostic apparatus. SOLUTION: A probe 401 for repeatedly transmitting/receiving light is connected to the image diagnostic apparatus 400, and the image diagnostic apparatus 400 acquires the reflection light within the body cavity from the probe 401 by rotating the probe for scanning within the body cavity and forms and outputs cross-sectional images within the body cavity based on the acquired reflection light. The image diagnostic apparatus 400 includes means 432 and 434 for shading the light to be transmitted to the probe 401; means 433 for detecting whether the probe 401 is connected or not; and means 414 for controlling the means 432 and 434 for shading based on the result of detection.
