An image sensor having a plurality of image sensor units in a substantially array-like arrangement, the light sensitive surfaces of the image sensor units spanning nodal points that are spaced from each other, and said nodal points together with horizontal and vertical connecting lines that connect the node points spanning a two-dimensional net, and the array-like arrangement comprising a central region and an edge region, the center region and the edge region being connected to each other along at least one connecting line, characterized in that the distance each of two neighboring nodal points of the array-like arrangement along the at least one connecting line differs in the central region and in the edge region. The invention furthermore relates to a camera system having an image sensor according to the invention and an additionally arranged optic.
