IMAGE DISPLAY DEVICE AND METHOD, AND IMAGE PROCESSING APPARATUS AND METHOD

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent deterioration in the image quality of a moving picture having a large amount of movement caused by motion compensation type frame rate conversion (FRC) processing.

SOLUTION: An image display device has: an FRC section 10 for converting the number of frames of an input image signal by interpolating an image signal, where motion compensation processing is performed between the frames of the input image signal; an amount-of-movement determination section 14 for determining whether the amount of movement between the frames of the input image signal is larger than a prescribed value; and a control section 15. The FRC section 10 has: a motion vector detection section 11e for detecting a motion vector between the frames of the input image signal; an insertion vector evaluation section 11f for allocating an insertion vector between the frames based on motion vector information; and an insertion frame generation section 12d for generating an insertion frame from the insertion vector. When the amount of movement between the frames of the input image signal is larger than a prescribed value, the control section 15 performs control so that the input image signal is displayed and outputted on a liquid crystal display panel 19 as it is without converting a frame rate by the FRC section 10.
