ELECTRONIC TELEVISION PROGRAM GUIDE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system which displays a plurality of television programs on a television receiver so that a viewer can select one of them easily and can view and listen a selected television program.

SOLUTION: A data processor of a television receiver receives television program schedule information for a plurality of television programs appearing on a plurality of television channels, and stores the television program schedule information in a memory. A user controller is a remote controller, for example. A video display generator receives a video control command from a data processor and the program schedule information from the memory, and overlays them upon a television program appearing on a television channel in at least one operation mode of a television program guide so that part of the program schedule information is displayed. The data processor controls the video display generator with a video control command originated in response to a user control command, and tunes the video display generator to a television channel which selected a television receiver.
