<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus and scanning optical apparatus, which are high in an optical performance with an inexpensive and easy configuration, by preventing the deterioration of image quality and the generation of noise due to a vibration caused by the instability of the position regulation of the scanning optical apparatus and a supporting frame. <P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus includes: the scanning optical apparatus 8; and the supporting frame 9 which supports the scanning optical apparatus 8, wherein a positioning part 31a and a positioning plate 31e are integrally formed on a casing 31. A positioning pin 9a on the supporting frame 9 is force-inserted into the positioning part 31a of the casing 31, the positioning pin 9b is pinched by the positioning plate 31e, and the side faces of the respective positioning members are in press-contact with each other.
