<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve light utilizing efficiency in a liquid crystal display wherein a thin film transistor panel 1 and a counter panel 21 disposed under the thin film transistor panel 1 and opposite to the thin film transistor panel 1 are stuck to each other via a sealing material, a liquid crystal 31 is encapsulated between both panels 1 and 21 in the inner side of the sealing material and a backlight 32 is disposed under the counter panel 21. <P>SOLUTION: Black masks 23 of the counter panel 21 are formed from aluminum, silver or an alloy thereof and are used in common as reflection layers. When light from the backlight 32 is emitted to the lower surfaces of the black masks 23 used in common as reflection layers, reflected light thereof is transmitted through a counter substrate 22, a rear surface side polarizing plate 27 and a light guide plate 33 and reflected by a reflection layer 34, at least a portion of the reflected light contributes to display and light utilization efficiency can be improved. In this case, what is necessary is just to form the black masks 23 used in common as the reflection layers on the upper surface of the counter substrate 22, so that the number of manufacturing steps is not increased and cost increase is prevented. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT |
