<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a manufacturing method for a retardation plate which realize superior adhesion between a substrate and an optical anisotropic layer and has high manufacturing efficiency. <P>SOLUTION: The retardation plate is obtained by coating a transparent substrate 10 with silane coupling agent or the like, to form a surface-improved layer 11. Then, the surface-improved layer 11 is coated with a liquid crystal compound, contacted with an aligned substrate to regularly align the liquid crystal compound and the alignment condition is fixed to form an optically anisotropic layer 14. Since the surface-improved layer 11 is provided for the retardation plate, adhesion between the transparent substrate 10 and the optically anisotropic layer 14 is increased, and the manufacturing efficiency is also improved. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
