PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an excavation method for a cast-in-place concrete nodal pile, which is available for creating the cast-in-place concrete nodal pile, achieves excavation and formation of a shaft portion and nodal portions of the nodal pile by using a compact excavator, and facilitates excavation and formation of the nodal portions of various shapes by using a relatively simple driving mechanism, and to provide an excavator for use in the method. SOLUTION: According to the structure of the excavator, an excavating bucket 10 mounted on a distal end of a rotary excavating shaft 2 of an earth drill 1 has formed thereon radially openable expandable blades 14, and earth intake ports 15 in multiple stages in the vertical direction. The expandable blades 14 function to excavate and form the nodal portions B, and the earth intake ports 15 function to take excavated earth by the expandable blades in the excavating bucket. Then internal and external double driving shafts which are arranged in the excavating bucket 10 in a vertically movable manner, are selectively moved upward/downward, and the expandable blades 14 are opened/closed via an opening/closing arm, to thereby form the nodal portions of various shapes by simultaneously or singly using the expandable blades 14 in the multiple stages.
