PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the manufacturing method of a narrow porous alumina base material capable of easily reducing the diameter of an inlet of each pore while maintaining the diameter of each pore inside the base material, and capable of manufacturing the narrow porous alumina base material having sufficiently high gas separation performance. SOLUTION: In the manufacturing method of the narrow porous alumina base material, alumina is subjected to the physical vapor deposition on a porous alumina base material 1 to reduce the inlet of each pore of the porous alumina base material to be 0.2-1.5 nm, and the narrow porous alumina base material can be obtained thereby.
