<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an organic EL element which can increase luminous efficiency and element life, a method of driving the element, and a method of driving a passive matrix organic EL display using the element. <P>SOLUTION: The organic EL element includes a substrate, first and second anodes, an organic EL layer including at least a light emitting layer, and first and second cathodes. The EL layer includes, as a partial structure, a layered product selected from the group consisting of (1) a layered product which has an electron conduction layer formed between the light emitting layer and the first and second anodes and sandwiched between two layers selected from the group consisting of a hole injection layer and a hole transportation layer, and (2) a layered product which has a hole conduction layer formed between the light emitting layer and the first and second cathodes and sandwiched between two layers selected from the group consisting of an electron injection layer and an electron transportation layer, and the organic EL element exhibit pnpn diode characteristics. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT |
