PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a camera that allows a user to focus accurately on an object that the user intends, even when there are a plurality of objects, while overlapping inside the angle of view. SOLUTION: This camera has an imaging part for converting an optical image into an electrical signal; an image processing part for converting the electrical signal obtained by the imaging part into color image data; an optical system driving part for changing focusing distance of an optical system; a typical color acquiring part for acquiring a typical color in a first part region from the information about colors of pixels contained in the first part region, in a color image and storing it, a pixel extracting part for extracting the pixel having information about colors that are close to the typical color within the predetermined range in a second part region in the color image; a contrast evaluation value calculating part for calculating the contrast evaluation value in a third part region, based on luminance values in the third part region constituted by the pixels extracted by the pixel extracting part; and an AF control part for detecting the peaks of contrast evaluation values, by changing the focusing distance by a predetermined value each time, by controlling the optical system driving part and focusing the optical system on the focusing distance for detecting the peak.
