PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem that when a charging roller is detached, the charging roller is soiled with toner accumulating on a roller-like cleaning member and soil on an operator's hand, with the result that the charging roller still usable is also soiled and made unusable, in an image forming apparatus that has the charging roller disposed close to the charged face of an image carrier movable endlessly and the roller-like cleaning member used to remove matters sticking to the surface of the charging roller. SOLUTION: The charging roller 3 and the roller-like cleaning member 4 can be separately attached to or detached from a support member 5. The direction in which the roller-like cleaning member 4 is attached or detached and the direction in which the charging roller 3 abuts on the image carrier have a difference of ≥90°.
