PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a detector for swiftly and accurately detecting a sewing miss on a fabric. SOLUTION: The detector 10 includes a first sensor 22a disposed close to a sewing needle 20, and a second sensor 22b disposed farther than the first sensor 22a. The detector 10 further includes a differential amplification circuit 30 for taking the differential output between the output of the first sensor 22a and the output of the second sensor 22b, and an output circuit 32 for determining a missing-stitch if the differential output is larger than a predetermined threshold.
