The present invention relates to a method for producing corrosion-protected, particularly shiny, metal pigments, comprising a) providing a carrier layer, b) applying at least one metal layer made of a first metal, a first precious metal, or a first metal alloy by means of vapor deposition or applying said first metal, said first precious metal, or said first metal alloy, particularly in a vacuum, to a coatable surface of the carrier layer, and c) placing at least one acid, oxide, double oxide, oxide hydrate, sulfide, halide, nitride, carbide, carbonitride, boride, silicide, oxyhalide, and/or salt of a second metal in the metal layer by treating the metal layer with an aqueous system comprising at least one acid, oxide, double oxide, oxide hydrate, sulfide, halide, nitride, carbide, carbonitride, boride, silicide, hxyhalide, and/or salt of the second metal, wherein the second metal represents an element of the fourth and/or fifth group of the periodic system of elements or a mixture thereof, d) dissolution of the formed metal layer from the carrier layer, and e) disintegrating the dissolved metal layer while maintaining the metal pigments. The invention further relates to metal pigments obtainable using said method and plastic and paper products and coating compositions comprising the metal pigments according to the invention. The invention additionally relates to a method for producing particularly corrosion-protected, glossy plastic substrates comprising metal pigments, particularly metal pigments according to the invention, and plastic substrates obtainable using said method. |
