The armrest is pivotably adjusted along elevation direction around a pivot bearing (24) that is arranged in one of the end areas, which is associated to an elbow region. The retaining device is arranged in the other end area that is associated to the hand in a use position. A shelf (23) pivots with the armrest and is formed at the adjustable longitudinal resting element. A support surface has a cover (20) provided with cushion.
