The device (16) has a tray retainer (22) including a gripping device (19) that grips a tray (11) and is attached to a movement apparatus. The movement apparatus is driven in linear movement axes for execution of a tray discharge cycle. The movement apparatus has two independently working robot units (20, 21) that are designed and provided for simultaneous execution of complete discharge cycles. The robot units are designed for accessing a tray station (12) and a tray discharge (15), and are independently controlled. An independent claim is also included for a method of discharging a tray.
