A beam scan type display device used as a head-mount display (HMD) and a head-up display (HUD) includes: a light source (101) which outputs a beam; a scan unit (103) which scans a beam outputted from the light source (101); a deflection unit (104) which deflects the beam scanned by the scan unit (103) into a direction toward the user eyes; and a wavefront shape modification unit (102) which modifies the wavefront shape of the beam from the light source (101) so that a beam spot size is contained in predetermined allowable range and outputs the beam to the scan unit (103).
