<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a document on a network by means of a cellphone and an image forming apparatus. <P>SOLUTION: When there is a request from a cellphone 102 to transmit a document (arrow A), a document management server 104 obtains desired document data by accessing a document database 108 (arrow B). If the data volume of the document requested by the cellphone 102 is within a predetermined size, the document data is transmitted to the cellphone 102. If the data volume of the document requested exceeds the predetermined size, a document token that allows the document to be specified uniquely is transmitted (arrow C). Upon obtaining the document token, a user connects the cellphone to a composite machine 106 so that the composite machine 106 can read the document token (arrow D). The composite machine 106 requests the document management server 104 to transmit the desired document (arrow E), and obtains it (arrow F).
