PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an insoluble electrode provided with an intermediate layer, wherein durability is excellent even in the case that production cost is reduced. SOLUTION: An electrode for electrolysis comprises an electrode base material comprising a conductive metal, the intermediate layer formed on the electrode base material, and a catalytic layer formed on the intermediate layer and comprising an electrode catalytic active material, wherein the whole of or a part of the intermediate layer comprises nitrided niobium. The electrode for electrolysis suppresses passivation of the electrode base material and secures the durability of the electrode, and is manufactured at a low cost. COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
