PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sealing device for a molten alloy, wherein the atmosphere coming in contact with a molten alloy is purged with an inert gas so as to keep sealing even with the lid off, and to provide an atmosphere shielding method upon the start of continuous casting, using the sealing device. SOLUTION: The sealing device for a molten alloy is a sealing device for sealing a molten alloy with an inert gas, wherein a jet nozzle having a flat jet slit for feeding an inert gas is arranged at one end of the opening part of a mold holding a molten alloy, and a suction nozzle having a flat suction slit for sucking an inert gas is arranged at position facing the jet nozzle. Also disclosed is the method for shielding the atmosphere upon the start of continuous casting, wherein the shielding device is used upon the start of continuous casting, and a molten alloy held in a mold is shielded from the atmosphere.
