The method involves transmitting and receiving data over a data line by a sending functional module (1), and a receiving functional module (2), respectively. The data from the data line are monitored by an error detecting device (5), and a signal is transmitted to the data line by a sensor (4) during detection of an attack. A fixed potential value is transmitted to the data line by a circuit i.e. XOR gate (3), during the attack so that data transmission is interfered over the data line. An alarm is produced during detection of an error by the error detecting device. An independent claim is also included for a safety controller comprising a sensor.
