<p>An in-service software upgrade method using the metadata-driven state transition is provided to enable a network element to change an active state into a new active state which is related to new software by using a metadata set related to the new software. The new software installed in a network element is received. The network element has an active and backup control card. The new software comprises a new metadata set and is installed in the backup controller card(504). The active state of the network element is synchronized on the backup controller card(510). The active state is related to the current software operated in the network element. By using the new metadata set, the active state is converted into the new active state related to the new software(512). The new metadata set indicates the structure and field of the new active state related to the new software.</p> |
