An apparatus and a method for transmitting/receiving feedback information in a communication system are provided to enable a receiver to calculate the minimum distance among all sub carriers in a cluster, select a sub carrier having the maximum sum of the minimum distances, and feed back the sub carrier to a transmitter, thereby improving system performance. A minimum distance between a kth sub carrier and the other sub carriers is calculated among sub carriers existing within a cluster(101). The calculated minimum distances are added. A sub carrier having the maximum sum of the minimum distances is selected between the kth sub carrier and a k+1th sub carrier. A codebook index corresponding to the selected sub carrier is transmitted to the transmitter(109).
