A control method and an apparatus of an internal combustion engine is provided to perform tank ventilation and the control of basic mixture at the same time by operating an internal combustion engine with a tank exhaust valve opened in static operating point. A first fuel amount correcting value is determined by correcting a base pilot control value to emitted fuel amount(205). Regeneration gas volumetric flow rate is changed by the change amount set up in advance(206). A second fuel amount correcting value is determined by correcting the base pilot control value to the emitted fuel amount in order to control exhaust gas composition to the set target value(208). A third fuel amount correcting value is calculated by correcting the base pilot control value to the emitted fuel amount based on the change amount to the first fuel amount correcting value, the second fuel amount correcting value and the regeneration gas volumetric flow rate. The correction of the base pilot control value is successively performed to the emitted fuel amount based on the third fuel amount correcting value.
