Device and process for preparing bobbins in an automatic winder, with freeing the skein end from the base of the bobbins, suctioning it and picking it up inside a suctioning mouth, positioning the picked up yarn in a scissors and cutting it to size, and inserting the skein end of the bobbin thus cut inside the tube of the prepared bobbin. Said operations are grouped together in a single work station with the bobbin set to press on a plate carrier, with steps coordinated in their sequence by a dedicated governing unit.
