A switchboard coupled with a transmitting terminal and a method for processing an SMS in the same are provided to remove traffic and reduce SMS transmission processing time. An SMS originating request to a receiving terminal is received from an originating terminal(S102). It is determined whether a location of the receiving terminal is registered(S110). When the location of the receiving terminal is registered, the SMS to be requested for origination is transmitted to the receiving terminal(S116).
