A system for providing data communication on-board trains in a plurality of carriages within a train set is disclosed. The system comprises a backbone network connecting carriage access units within each of the carriages, and the backbone network comprises a cable running through pre-existing inter-carriage connections, whereby the cable runs between the carriages within the train set. Further, each carriage access unit comprises a data communication interface accessible to communication devices within the carriage and a data communication interface for connection to said backbone network cable. At least one of the carriage access units is connected to a power source via a first filter, said first filter preventing high frequency signals from passing to and from said carriage access unit to said power source.
