Fine threads of polymerized olefines are produced by dissolving a polymer of an aliphatic olefine having from 2 to 5 carbon atoms, which polymer has been prepared by a low-pressure polymerization process and has a molecular weight of more than 70,000, in an oil which consists of at least one paraffin hydrocarbon and/or at least one naphthene hydrocarbon, has a viscosity of from 1 to 60 Engler at 50 DEG C. and is as far as possible colourless, to form a solution of the polymer of a concentration not exceeding 18% and spinning the solution. Polyethylene is the specified polyolefine, and mineral oil, gas oil, spindle oil and white oil are specified oils. The spinning solution may be spun into a precipitating bath of one or more alcohols, e.g. propanol, and/or ethers at room temperature, and the spun thread may be subjected to a two-stage stretching process p in which it is pre-stretched at 90-105 DEG C. and after-stretched at above 110 DEG C. |
