A display apparatus having a function of displaying an emergency notifying message is provided to display a pre-stored emergency notifying message by interrupting the operation of a set-top box in an emergency operation mode and using a low power micro-control unit, thereby minimizing the power consumption in the emergency operation mode. A set-top box(58) receives and processes an image signal from the outside. A display unit(60) outputs the image signal outputted from the set-top box on a screen. A power supply circuit(52) receives the commercial AC power for driving the set-top box. A charging circuit(54) is connected with the power supply circuit to generate the charging power. A storage battery(56) receives the charging power from the charging circuit. A micro-control unit(64) is driven by the power of the storage battery and is operated in the emergency to control the display unit so as to display an emergency notifying message. A switching unit(68) selectively connects the outputs of the set-top box and micro-control unit to the display unit.
