Temperature sensitive oil valve for scroll compressor motor protector

A scroll compressor is provided with an oil bleed valve 50 in a fixed scroll 30 mounted in a housing so as to separate suction and discharge chambers. The valve, e.g. poppet 68 with a stem 70, selectively communicates the discharge chamber with the suction chamber via a passage 66 in the fixed scroll and selectively allows a flow of hot oil through a passage and onto a safety shutoff switch for an electric motor. The valve operates once a threshold temperature is reached by a pair of bimetal discs 74 which snap between a non-operating position and a valve operating position. The valve is positioned at a low point on the fixed scroll where oil will accumulate.
