Disclosed is a resin composition for forming an adhesive for temporary surface protection which has adequate release strength and releasability which does not change over time, while leaving no contamination on the object from which it is separated. This resin composition has a reduced curing time. Also disclosed is an adhesive for temporary surface protection which uses such a resin composition. Specifically disclosed is a resin composition for forming an adhesive for temporary surface protection through irradiation of an active energy ray, which contains a resin component and a photopolymerization initiator without containing a polymerizable monomer or a polymerizable oligomer. In this resin composition, the resin component is composed substantially only of an acrylic resin (A) containing no ethylenically unsaturated group. Also specifically disclosed is an adhesive for temporary surface protection which substantially contains only an acrylic resin (A) containing no ethylenically unsaturated group and is obtained by being irradiated with an active energy ray. Further specifically disclosed is an adhesive for temporary surface protection which is obtained by irradiating an acrylic resin composition [I] mainly containing an acrylic resin (A), which contains no ethylenically unsaturated group, with an active energy ray.
