The etalon has a disc (1) provided with a slice including certified dimensions to serve as a reference, where the slice includes an adjusted surface on a wave generating curve having a spatial period and a spatial amplitude that is equal to 3 meter. The slice includes a number i.e. 160, of waves by rotation, and a predetermined diameter to define the spatial period. The slice of the disc has a thickness of 5 millimeter, and is separated from a neighboring disc (2) by a groove that has a thickness of 1 millimeter. An independent claim is also included for a method for qualifying a three-dimensional machine.
