PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To properly control the gain of a camera by accurately extracting luminance information of an object in an image. SOLUTION: An image input part 13 is used for continuously inputting an image picked up by a camera 2. A luminance change observation part 21 observes a temporal change of the luminance of each pixel of the image to be input by the image input part 13. A face region detection part 22 detects a region corresponding to the face of the person from the image input by the image input part 13. A classification processing part 15 classifies the image into a section of interest and a section of non-interest based on the observation result of the luminance change observation part 21 and the detection result of the face region detection part 22. A gain adjustment part 12 adjusts the gain of the camera 2 with respect to the section of interest classified by the classification processing part 15. COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
