<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a photosensitizer having a large absorption coefficient which absorbs light in a wide range from visible light to infrared light and has a high optical absorption rate even in an extremely thin thin-film, and a photovoltaic element using this photosensitizer. <P>SOLUTION: The photovoltaic element has a semiconductor layer 3 adsorbing a photosensitizer arranged on a transparent conductive substrate 1 and an electrolyte layer 4 arranged between the semiconductor layer 3 and a counter electrode substrate 2, and the surroundings are sealed by a seal material 5. Then, a lead wire is connected to a conductive portion of the transparent conductive substrate 1 and the counter electrode substrate 2, and can take out power. The photosensitizer is a metal complex dye having an absorption range from visible light to infrared range, has a large absorption coefficient, and contains a compound having a specific structural unit. This specific structural unit contains a transition metal selected from Ru, Os, Fe, Re, and Rh, and has at least one COOH. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT |
