PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hepatocyte regeneration promotor having a higher hepatocyte regeneration-promoting effect than those of conventionally used glycyrrhizin and its derivatives, and containing a glycyrrhetinic acid derivative as an active ingredient, and also the new glycyrrhetinic acid derivative capable of being used for the promotor. SOLUTION: The hepatocyte regeneration promotor contains a compound or its pharmaceutically acceptable salt expressed by general formula (1) [wherein, X is H or OH], or a compound expressed by formula (12).
