PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical fiber cable capable of preventing an ovipositor of an insect from reaching a core wire even when the ovipositor is inserted into a notch to prevent the core wire from being damaged and tearing off a covering easily to achieve an excellent function of taking out the core wire. SOLUTION: The optical fiber cable is constituted by providing the notch composed of an inlet notch part and a tip notch part in a covering part of the cable, separating a corner part inducing tearing-off toward a core wire side from an inlet notch part side because the inlet notch part has a substantially wedge-like cross sectional shape having the arrangement for preventing its direction from going toward an axial line of the optical fiber and the tip notch part has a cross sectional shape exlarged from the inlet notch part, thereby: maintaining the condition for preventing the ovipositor from advancing onto a core wire side from the inlet notch part even when the ovipositor is inserted into the notch to prevent the core wire of the optical fiber from being damaged due to piercing-in of the ovipositor into the covering through the notch; and allowing a worker to tear off the covering with hand by starting from the tip notch part and take the core wire of the optical fiber out of the covering easily.
