<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gesture recognition apparatus and a gesture recognition method with improved recognition precision for a gesture. <P>SOLUTION: The gesture recognition apparatus recognizing the gesture based on an action of an imaged subject is provided with; a recognition condition setting portion which sets recognition conditions for the gesture; a movement detection portion which detects the amount of movement based on the amount of variation in luminance in each pixel in a divided region for every divided region which are a plurality of divided regions of a picked up image; a movement region detecting portion which detects the divided region in which the amount of movement detected by the amount of movement detection portion is a prescribed threshold value or more as the movement region, a specific region detecting portion which detects a specific region which is the divided region to be adopted for recognition of the gesture from among the movement regions detected by the movement region detection portion; and a gesture recognizing portion which recognizes the gesture based at least on the specific region detected by the specific region detection portion and the recognition condition for the gesture set by the recognition condition setting portion. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT</p> |
