PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an autotensioner capable of quickly discharging air mixed in a pressure chamber. SOLUTION: In this autotensioner 6, an operating fluid is stored in a cylinder 10, the lower periphery of a sleeve 11 is fitted in a sleeve fitting recessed part 12 formed at the bottom 9 of the cylinder 10, a rod 13 is inserted into the sleeve 11 so as to divide the inside of the cylinder 10 into a pressure chamber 14 and a reservoir chamber 15, the pressure chamber 14 and the reservoir chamber 15 are made to communicate with each other through a leak gap 23 between the rod 13 and the sleeve 11, a lower part of the pressure chamber 14 and a lower part of the reservoir chamber 15 are made to communicate with each other through an oil passage 27 having a check valve 28, a spring washer 16 is fixed to the upper end of he rod 13, and a return spring 17 is provided to energize the spring washer 16 in a direction for enlarging a volume of the pressure chamber 14.
