The compound of formula is prepared by condensing 2-amino-5-naphthol-4:8-disulphonic acid with fumaric acid dichloride. Specifications 660,447, 721,495, 790,386, 820,472, 837,996, 866,914, 907,382 and 907,383 are referred to.ALSO:Azo dyes are prepared by coupling a carbocyclic or heterocyclic diazo compound having in o-position to the diazo group a metallisable group or a group or atom convertible thereto during metallisation with a 6-nitro- or -amino- or -acylamino-1-naphthol-4-or-8-mono-or-4:8-disulphonic acid, coppering the dye if desired, converting the 6-nitro-or-amino-or-acylamino-group into an azo, azoxy, urea, secondary or tertiary triazinylamino, terephthaloylamino or fumaroylamino bridge member by reductively linking the nitro group to form an azo group, or reducing the nitro group or saponifying the acylamino group, the aminoazo dye being further diazotised and coupled or reacted with phosgene, a di- or tri-halotriazine, terephthaloyl or fumaroyl chloride or first with phenyl chloroformate to form the phenylurethane which is then reacted with a second aminoazo dye of the same structure to form the urea and finally coppering the dye if desired. In a modification of the process the diazo compound is coupled with a naphthol sulphonic acid containing in the 6-position an azo, azoxy, urea, triazinylamino, terephthaloylamino or fumaroylamino bridge member. The dyes give blue and grey shades on cellulose fibres. In Examples: (1) the dye 2-aminonaphthalene-3:6-disulphonic acid --> 6-nitro-1-naphthol-4-sulphonic acid is oxidatively coppered and reduced with glucose and sodium hydroxide solution; (2) the copper complex of the nitro-azo dye prepared in (1) is reduced with sodium sulphide and the aminoazo dye obtained is coppered and reacted with phosgene or further diazotised and coupled with 2-methoxy-5-methyl-aniline, the aminodisazo dye obtained being diazotised and coupled with 2-naphthol-3:6-disulphonic acid and the trisazo dye finally coppered.
