PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ultrasonic probe having a composite piezoelectric element whose plate surface abutting on a perfect reflecting layer can be uniformly polished into a mirror-finished surface, and to provide an ultrasonic imaging apparatus. SOLUTION: The plate surface, facing the perfect reflecting layer 73, of the composite piezoelectric element 72 is provided with a plate-like joint part 85 consisting only of a piezoelectric element 83, and the plate surface, facing the perfect reflecting layer 73, of the plate-like joint part 85 together with the plate surface of the facing perfect reflecting layer 73 is formed with small unevenness by mirror finished surface polishing. An adhesive layer is thereby made thin with uniform thickness, which results in achieving the ultrasonic probe of wide frequency band with high sensitivity. COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
