The invention comprises unsaturated esters of thiophosphorus acids of formula <FORM:0879087/IV (b)/1> where R and R1 are C1-4 alkyl, C2-4 alkeny or C1-4 alkoxy groups and X is oxygen or sulphur. They are prepared by reacting divinyl sulphide with an appropriate thiophosphoric, -phosphonic or -phosphinic ester. An inert solvent is preferably used. The products are insecticides (see Group VI). Divinyl sulphide is prepared by introducing, at boiling temperature, b ,b -dichlorodiethyl sulphide into alcoholic KOH and instantaneously removing the divinyl sulphide formed by distillation. The boiling point of the reaction mixture may be increased by adding high-boiling, water-soluble alcohols, such as glycol, glycerol, pentaerythritol or their partial ethers, e.g. glycol monomethyl ether.
