<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently backup data in consideration of data security. <P>SOLUTION: This storage system includes a first storage device and a second storage device connected to a host computer. The first and second storage devices each include a controller and a disk drive. The controller manages an encryption status and an encryption key for each of a data volume and a journal volume in the disk drive. The controller in the first storage device receives a write request from the host computer, creates an update log based on the write data, encrypts the update log, and successively stores the update log in a storage area in the journal volume.
