PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an indoor unit of an air conditioner capable of completely closing an intake opening with a flat panel when stopping the operation and retaining the flat panel into a stable open attitude during the operation. SOLUTION: This indoor unit 2 is so formed that a drive unit 50 inserts a shaft 43 into a bearing 42 of the flat panel 4 during the operation and retracts the shaft 43 from the bearing 42 in maintenance. The shaft 43 rotationally supports the flat panel 4, so that the lifting and lowering of the flat panel 4 by a lift 7 are converted into the rotational movement to incline the attitude of the flat panel 4 with respect to the ceiling surface. Consequently, the intake opening 21 can be opened during the operation with the flat panel 4 supported to the body so as to prevent the attitude of the flat panel from getting unstable by an air pressure of intake air.
