PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for estimating the amount of deviation of an air-fuel ratio of an aircraft reciprocating engine in a short period of time and inhibiting velocity fluctuation during the correction of air-fuel ratio. SOLUTION: The amount of deviation between an actual air-fuel ratio and a target air-fuel ratio of the aircraft reciprocating engine is estimated by changing throttle opening. Throttle opening of the engine is determined beforehand and a map Th-λof throttle opening and excess air ratio, and a constant characteristic curve map EGT-AF-Th of exhaust gas temperature and excess air ratio are created, and an approximation formula approximating to EGT-AF-Th is defined. Th-λis referred under a condition where fuel flow quantity is constant during flight of the aircraft, excess air ratio corresponding to predetermined throttle opening is determined, and exhaust gas temperature corresponding to throttle opening is measured. The excess air ratio and the exhaust gas temperature determined in such a manner are substituted for the approximation formula to calculate an actual theoretical excess air ratioλp, and differenceΔλbetween theoretical excess air ratioλ* and the actual theoretical excess air ratioλp.
