<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a bearing apparatus using a ball bearing for a steering handle, which ensures its assembly easiness, and besides, has the extended life of bearings by decreasing a contact surface pressure of a rolling element against a raceway surface and further preventing surface exfoliation due to the inclusion of a foreign matter. <P>SOLUTION: The bearing apparatus for the steering handle is manufactured by the steps of: holding a ball 4 which is arranged between raceway surfaces 2a and 3a of an inner ring 2 and an outer ring 3 of an angular ball bearing 1, in a holder 5; controlling a curvature radius ρ2 in a cross section in an axial direction of the raceway surface 2a of the inner ring 2 to 53% or less of the diameter D of the ball 4; employing SUJ2 or SUJ3 as a material of the inner ring 2; and quenching and tempering the inner ring 2 to make the surface layer of the raceway surface 2a contain retained austenite in an amount of 20 volume% or more and acquire Vickers hardness Hv of 680 or more. Thereby, the bearing apparatus ensures the assembly easiness, and besides, can extend the life of the bearings by decreasing the contact surface pressure of the ball 4 against the raceway surface 2a and further preventing the surface exfoliation due to the inclusion of the foreign matter. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT |
