<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To properly control an idling speed when the actual compression ratio changes. <P>SOLUTION: This idling control device temporarily changes the ignition timing to the ignition timing advance side or the ignition timing delay side with respect to the reference ignition timing so that an engine speed becomes a target idling speed when the engine speed becomes different from the target idling speed in idling operation.
