PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a bobbin tool type friction stir joining tool where the material of the joint flowing upon stir joining is stirred also to the shaft direction, and the stable joining strength of the superimposed members to be joined is obtained. SOLUTION: The joint between the members to be joined is sandwiched between an upper rotary body 11 and a lower rotary body 12, a stirring shaft 51 rotating integrally between the upper rotary body 11 and the lower rotary body 12 is moved, and the members to be joined are joined by frictional heat. In the stirring shaft 51, a stirring groove 52 changing to the shaft direction is formed at the outer circumferential face, and also, it is formed in such a manner that its diameter is made large toward a direction in which the material stirred by the stirring groove 52 moves to the shaft direction.
