摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hard brittle material grinding method for grinding a hard brittle material into a free curved shape without degrading machining efficiency and without causing brittle failure, to provide a hard brittle material machining device, and to also provide an optical fiber array manufacturing method for integrally forming a lens portion at an end of an optical fiber array by applying thereto the hard brittle material grinding method. SOLUTION: According to the hard brittle material grinding method, a feeding velocity (v) for relatively moving a machining tool 10 relative to the hard brittle material 20 along the free curved shape, is calculated so as to satisfy grindable ductile mode machining conditions without causing the brittle failure in a surface to be ground of the objective hard brittle material 20, according to a curved surface to be machined of the hard brittle material. Then while continuously changing the feeding velocity (v) for relatively moving the machining tool according to the curved surface to be machined, the hard brittle material grinding device carries out grinding of the hard brittle material into the free curved shape without causing the brittle failure.
