摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface-coated cutting tool with a hard coating layer exhibiting excellent abrasion resistance in high-speed cutting. SOLUTION: The surface-coated cutting tool has the hard coating layer comprising a lower layer made of (Ti, Al)N and an upper layer made of (Ti, Al, Si)N, which are vapor-deposited. The lower layer satisfies a composition formula: [Ti<SB>1-X</SB>Al<SB>X</SB>]N (wherein X is 0.40-0.60 by atomic ratio). The upper layer comprises an alternately-laminated structure of a thin layer A and a thin layer B. The thin layer A satisfies a composition formula: [Ti<SB>1-(E+F)</SB>Al<SB>E</SB>Si<SB>F</SB>]N (wherein E is 0.10-0.14 and F is 0.20-0.25 by atomic ratio).
