PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of detecting the number of workpieces on a stock conveyor for accurately seizing the number of workpieces on the stock conveyor. SOLUTION: In the method of detecting the number of workpieces on the stock conveyor, there are arranged the stock conveyor 20 for carrying the workpieces 11, a first detecting sensor 31 provided on the stock conveyor 20 for detecting the condition that no workpiece exists, and a second detecting sensor 32 for detecting the condition that the workpieces fully exist. There are also arranged a workpiece counter for counting the workpieces 11, a first timer to be linked with the first detecting sensor 31, and a second timer to be linked with the second detecting sensor 32. The first timer is triggered and operated when the first detecting sensor 31 no longer detects the workpieces 11. When the first timer exceeds a first set value, the workpiece counter counts zero. The second timer is triggered and operated when the second detecting sensor 32 detects the workpieces 11.
